LG Home Battery Guide 2026: RESU Prime and enblock S Specs Compared

An LG home battery bought new in 2026 comes from LG Energy Solution (LG ES), which sells the RESU Prime packs and the newer modular enblock S in the US. Both are high-voltage DC batteries that pair with a compatible hybrid inverter from another brand. This guide uses LG ES’s US spec sheets, US limited warranties and compatible-inverter lists for every figure. We haven’t tested either ourselves.

Current LG Home Battery Lineup

We checked LG Energy Solution’s US product page (lgessbattery.com/us) in October 2026. It lists:

  • Prime: RESU10H Prime and RESU16H Prime.
  • Prime+: RESU10H Prime+ and RESU16H Prime+, which LG ES lists with their own spec sheets and warranties.
  • enblock S: a stackable battery in three sizes (S10, S14 and S17), which LG ES calls its new residential storage system.
  • Gen2 400V: older RESU7H and RESU10H models.

What about the LG ESS Home 8? That all-in-one system came from a different company, LG Electronics. LG Electronics says it is transitioning away from the energy storage business globally and will continue to honor the limited warranty on installed systems. Home 8 owners should contact their installer for warranty support, per LG’s US notice.

Each battery module weighs 77.8 lb and the control unit 31.1 lb, so the stack goes up in pieces rather than as one heavy cabinet. LG ES’s warranty says capacity added later by fitting another module takes the remaining warranty term of the original modules.

Which Inverters Work With an LG Home Battery

Both lines need an inverter on LG ES’s compatibility list, and LG ES says using a non-approved inverter voids its warranty.

  • RESU Prime (US list, May 2025): several GoodWe hybrid series (GW…A-ES, GW…A-BP and GW…SBP-US20) for both sizes, plus SMA Sunny Boy Storage SBS3.8-US, SBS5.0-US and SBS6.0-US for the RESU16H Prime, each with minimum firmware versions.
  • enblock S (US list, June 2024): E10-TL-US, the S6-EH1P…-H-US series from 3.8 to 11.4 kW, and the MIN 3000 to 11400TL-XH-US series.

Ask your installer to confirm the exact inverter model and firmware against the current list before you sign.

What the Specs Mean

  • The inverter sets your backup power. The battery figures above are DC limits. A 7 kW battery on a 6 kW inverter gives you 6 kW at the outlets.
  • enblock S gives more energy per size step. The S10 stores 1 kWh more than the RESU10H Prime at the same 5 kW rating, and the S17 stores 1.7 kWh more than the RESU16H Prime at 7 kW.
  • Both warranties guarantee 70% for 10 years, or until the throughput limit, whichever comes first. enblock S has higher throughput limits for its size.
  • Keep it online. Both LG ES warranties require internet connection and registration for the full term. Without them, LG ES still provides at least five years.

Figures from each maker’s US documents.

  • Versus Powerwall 3: an LG pack stores more per unit, while Powerwall 3 includes its own inverter and more continuous power. See our Tesla Powerwall 3 review.
  • Versus Enphase and FranklinWH: both are complete AC systems with 15-year terms. LG suits buyers already using a compatible hybrid inverter. Compare them in Powerwall 3 vs Enphase vs FranklinWH.

Who Each LG Battery Suits

  • RESU Prime: homes building around a GoodWe or SMA hybrid inverter on LG ES’s list, wanting a proven 10 or 16 kWh pack.
  • enblock S: new installs on a listed inverter where the installer wants modules that are easier to carry and room to step from 10.6 to 17.7 kWh.
  • Look elsewhere if you want an all-in-one system with the inverter built in, or more than about 35 kWh from one inverter.

Sizing Example

Illustrative inputs: a home wants 24 hours of backup for essential loads averaging 0.8 kW, with a 10% reserve left over.

  1. Energy needed: 0.8 kW × 24 h = 19.2 kWh, then 19.2 ÷ 0.9 ≈ 21.3 kWh of battery.
  2. RESU Prime option: two RESU16H Prime packs (32 kWh, 14 kW battery side).
  3. enblock S option: one S17 (17.7 kWh) falls short, so two enblock S units of the same size, such as two S14 (28.2 kWh).
  4. Power check: list loads that run together and confirm the inverter covers them.

Questions to Ask an LG Installer

  1. Is the quote for RESU Prime, Prime+ or enblock S, and which size?
  2. Which hybrid inverter and firmware version are you using, and is it on LG ES’s current US list?
  3. Will the system be registered and kept online for the full 10-year warranty?
  4. Are you an LG ES certified installer? The US warranty requires one.

Price and Incentives

LG ES batteries are sold through installers and distributors, and installed prices vary with the inverter and electrical work. We aren’t publishing a price we can’t verify. There’s no 30% federal credit for homeowner-owned systems installed after December 31, 2025 (IRS), so check state and utility programs.

Electrical work can be dangerous: follow the manual, fuse and size every cable correctly, and use a licensed electrician for anything connected to household wiring.

FAQ

Is LG still making home batteries?

Yes. LG Energy Solution lists RESU Prime, Prime+ and enblock S on its US site. LG Electronics, a separate company, is leaving the energy storage business and has stopped selling the ESS Home 8.

How much does the LG enblock S store?

10.6, 14.1 or 17.7 kWh usable, depending on whether it has three, four or five battery modules.

Does an LG home battery include an inverter?

No. RESU Prime and enblock S are high-voltage DC batteries that need a compatible hybrid inverter.

What is the LG RESU Prime warranty?

10 years with 70% energy retention, or 32 MWh (RESU10H Prime) and 54 MWh (RESU16H Prime) of throughput, whichever comes first.

What happens to my LG ESS Home 8 warranty?

LG Electronics says it will keep honoring the limited warranty on installed Home 8 systems. Contact your installer, or LG’s ESS support line listed on lg.com/us/ess.
