A sonnen battery is an AC-coupled, lithium iron phosphate home storage system that sonnen says will pair with any solar array, backed by a 10-year or 10,000-cycle warranty. sonnen’s US site lists three models in October 2026: the indoor sonnenCore+, the outdoor sonnenEvo, and the newer indoor/outdoor sonnenHome Battery 11, which stacks up to 60 kWh. This guide uses sonnen’s US spec sheets, product pages and factory limited warranty for every figure. We haven’t tested a sonnen battery ourselves.

sonnen says the Home Battery 11 supports wall-mounted, wall-supported and floor-mounted installation, and that its sonnenHub has integrated load shedding. It’s designed for sonnen’s virtual power plant program, sonnenVPP.

The sonnenCore+ is AC-coupled, indoor-rated (IP30), uses lithium iron phosphate cells in 5 kWh modules, lists 94.4% peak inverter efficiency and is rated under 25 dB. sonnen recommends up to 6 kVA of PV per system.
sonnenEvo
sonnen describes the sonnenEvo as its first outdoor home battery for the Americas, an integrated AC-coupled system with an IP56 rating. Each unit holds a 10 kWh sonnenModule 4 made of two 5.0 kWh LFP modules, and up to three units stack for 30 kWh. sonnen estimates lifetime throughput of up to 90 MWh per system under its 10-year/10,000-cycle warranty.
Backup, Load Shedding and Solar Recharge
sonnen says the sonnenHub that comes with the Home Battery 11 has integrated load shedding, so it can drop selected loads during an outage instead of relying on a separate exclusive loads panel. sonnen also offers a VPP Smart Breaker solution, built with ADAPT Energy, that sheds hard-to-relocate loads right where they sit in the panel. That matters because a 6 kW battery can’t start everything at once.
Recharging in an outage has limits too. sonnen’s sonnenCore+ spec sheet notes that in off-grid mode the battery can accept at most 4.48 kW of charging for one system, 8.3 kW for a two-unit stack and 11.8 kW for three. A large solar array won’t refill the battery faster than that while the grid is down. The Home Battery 11 spec sheet lists 6 kW as the maximum supported AC power from PV per system.
Warranty in Detail
sonnen’s Factory Limited Warranty (dated November 25, 2025) covers sonnenCore+, sonnenEvo and sonnenHome Battery 11 for the earlier of 10,000 cycles or 120 months after installation by an authorized installer, including the inverter, battery modules, cabinet and components. Key conditions in the document:
- The system must be installed and commissioned by a certified sonnen installer.
- sonnen requires continuous internet access to the battery.
- For the Home Battery 11, the warranty can pass to a new owner of the building if the system stays in its original location.

What the Specs Mean
- Power is modest per unit. One sonnenCore+ supplies 4.8 kVA, and one Home Battery 11 supplies 6 kW continuous. Larger loads need stacking or load shedding.
- Very long cycle rating. 10,000 cycles is far more than daily use for 10 years would need (3,650 cycles).
- AC coupling. sonnen batteries work alongside any existing solar inverter, which makes them a retrofit option.
How It Compares to Powerwall 3, Enphase 5P and FranklinWH
| Spec | sonnenHome Battery 11 | sonnenCore+ (P20) | Tesla Powerwall 3 | Enphase IQ Battery 5P | FranklinWH aPower 2 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Usable energy | 10 or 20 kWh | 20 kWh | 13.5 kWh | 5.0 kWh | 15 kWh |
| Continuous power | 6 kW | 4.8 kVA | Up to 11.5 kW | 3.84 kVA | 10 kW |
| Coupling | AC | AC | DC solar input built in | AC | AC |
| Chemistry | LFP | LFP | LFP | LFP | LFP |
| Warranty | 10 yr or 10,000 cycles | 10 yr or 10,000 cycles | 10 yr, 70% (US) | 15 yr or 6,000 cycles | 15 yr or 60 MWh |
Figures from each maker’s US documents.
- Versus Powerwall 3: sonnen stores more per cabinet but supplies less continuous power per unit. See our Tesla Powerwall 3 review.
- Versus Enphase 5P and FranklinWH: all three are AC-coupled retrofit options. FranklinWH leads on power per unit, Enphase on granular sizing, and sonnen on cycle rating.
Who It Suits
- Homes with existing solar that want an AC-coupled battery with a high cycle rating.
- Owners interested in virtual power plant programs. sonnen’s California sonnenConnect program pays enrolled owners who meet its requirements.
- Homes with indoor space (Core+) or a need for outdoor mounting (Evo, Home Battery 11).
Who Should Look Elsewhere
- Homes that want large motor loads started from a single unit.
- Owners who can’t keep the battery online, since sonnen’s warranty requires internet access.
Sizing Example
Illustrative inputs: a home with 15 kWh of nightly use and a 5 kW evening peak.
- Power: 5 kW is above one sonnenCore+ (4.8 kVA) but within one Home Battery 11 (6 kW).
- Energy: 15 kWh ÷ 0.9 (10% reserve) ≈ 16.7 kWh, so a 20 kWh cabinet.
- Choice: one 20 kWh sonnenHome Battery 11 meets both, or two 10 kWh sonnenCore+ units (20 kWh, 9.6 kVA) for more power indoors.
- Cycles check: one full cycle a day for 10 years is about 3,650 cycles, well under 10,000.

Price and Incentives
sonnen sells through certified installers, and we aren’t publishing a price we can’t verify. There’s no 30% federal credit for homeowner-owned systems installed after December 31, 2025 (IRS). Check state and utility battery programs.
Electrical work can be dangerous: follow the manual, fuse and size every cable correctly, and use a licensed electrician for anything connected to household wiring.
