70mai A810 Dash Cam Review: 4K STARVIS 2, GPS and Parking Mode

The 70mai Dash Cam 4K A810 records true 4K video through Sony’s STARVIS 2 IMX678 sensor, and adds built-in GPS, driver alerts and an optional 1080p rear camera. According to 70mai’s A810 product page, the camera pairs that 1/1.8-inch sensor with an F1.8 lens, a 150-degree field of view and HDR on both the front and rear channels. It has a 3-inch screen, connects to the 70mai app over Wi-Fi, and offers AI motion detection for parking mode with a hardwire kit. Here’s what the A810 offers, how to set it up, and how it compares.

Specs come from 70mai’s A810 product page and the A810 Series user manual. I haven’t tested the A810 myself, so this review covers its specs, setup and features rather than my own footage. You can find the 70mai A810 on Amazon (that listing bundles a polarizing filter).

Amazon’s A810 listings describe the field of view as 146 degrees and maximum card size as 256GB. 70mai’s own page lists 150 degrees and doesn’t state a maximum card size, so use the figure printed in your box if you need certainty.

Image quality: what the sensor brings

70mai says the IMX678 brings a 68% increase in chip size, a 90% increase in each pixel’s photosensitive area and double the low-light performance, by its own comparison. Combined with an F1.8 aperture and 70mai’s own HDR processing, which it brands MaiColor Vivid+ and Night Owl Vision, the aim is clearer license plates and street signs at night and better balance when you drive from shade into bright sun.

4K matters most for reading detail after the fact. 70mai notes that 4K captures four times as many pixels as Full HD, so you can pause and zoom in on a plate or sign. The 60fps option is useful for smoother motion at highway speeds.

Front and rear recording

The A810 records the rear channel in 1080p HDR when you add a rear camera. The manual says the rear recording function needs a rear camera, and the Dash Cam Set includes one with its own lead wire and signal cable. If you buy the camera-only package, 70mai recommends its own brand of rear camera to avoid compatibility problems.

Package Contents (per the manual)
Dash cam only Dash cam, mount, power cord, car charger, wiring trim tool, electrostatic sticker, manual
Dash Cam Set All of the above plus a rear camera package

Safety and driving features

  • ADAS alerts: pedestrian and cyclist alert, lane departure, forward collision and moving traffic alerts, according to 70mai.
  • Built-in GPS: records time, speed and coordinates alongside the video, and draws your route on a map in the app.
  • App control: view live footage, take photos, download clips and change settings such as resolution, clip length and G-sensor sensitivity through the 70mai app over the camera’s Wi-Fi hotspot.

The manual requires Android 5.0 or iOS 11.0 or later to connect to the camera’s Wi-Fi.

Parking mode and 4G

70mai’s Smart Parking Guardian Mode uses AI motion detection that judges a nearby person’s distance and intent, and starts recording when it decides someone may be a threat. Time-lapse recording is also available. Both need the 70mai Hardwire Kit UP03, which connects the camera to your fuse box so it can run while the engine is off.

With a 4G hardwire kit, the A810 can send instant alerts to your phone, let you check the camera remotely and show your car’s location. 70mai says location updates arrive every 15 seconds, with up to 15 activations a month. 70mai’s page lists the UP04 4G kit for select countries in Europe and Southeast Asia, while U.S. Amazon listings bundle the A810 with a UP05 hardwire kit described as LTE-capable. Check that the 4G kit you buy supports your country and carrier, and update the camera’s firmware first, as 70mai advises.

For a walkthrough of hardwiring a dash cam to the fuse box, see our DDPAI Z60 hardwire kit installation guide; the fuse-tap steps are similar for most brands.

How to install the A810

The manual’s steps:

  1. Apply the electrostatic sticker to a clean, dry, flat area of the windshield, away from the edge. Press out any air bubbles.
  2. Attach the mount by sliding it into the mount slot.
  3. Insert the memory card with the camera off.
  4. Stick the camera onto the electrostatic sticker.
  5. Route the power cord under the headliner and along the A-pillar seal with the included trim tool, then to the 12V socket.
  6. Turn it on and adjust the angle using the preview on the screen.

Two practical tips from the manual’s precautions: don’t block your view of the road or any airbag, and use the included charger and cord.

Choosing a memory card

70mai requires a microSD card of at least 32GB rated U3 (UHS-3) or faster, and says to format it in the camera on first use. Dash cams rewrite cards constantly, so 70mai recommends a quality card from a reputable seller and replacing it if it wears out. A high-endurance card made for dash cams or security cameras is the usual choice.

Use Suggested card size (estimate)
Front only, daily commute 64GB
Front and rear, 4K 128GB
Front and rear plus parking mode 128–256GB

Loop recording overwrites the oldest clips, so a bigger card keeps more history before it’s overwritten. My suggestions are rough estimates; check how many hours your card holds in the app once it’s set up.

A810 vs A810S

Amazon now sells a newer A810S alongside the A810, and some listings carry a note clarifying which one you’re getting. The A810S listing describes Wi-Fi 6, a STARVIS 2 IMX662 rear sensor, an F1.7 aperture, five-system positioning and voice control. The A810 listings describe an IMX678 front sensor, F1.8 and standard Wi-Fi. Check the model number before you buy.

How it stacks up

The IMX678 front sensor isn’t unique to 70mai; DDPAI uses it in its Z60 Pro too. Where the A810 stands out is its 150-degree field of view, AI parking detection and ADAS alerts. A camera with a supercapacitor and 5GHz Wi-Fi may suit you better if you park in extreme heat or download lots of clips; our DDPAI Z60 Pro vs Z60 comparison covers one such option.

Settings worth checking on day one

Once the camera is mounted and the app is connected, a few minutes in the settings menu pays off:

  1. Set the date, time and time zone. GPS helps here, but confirm the timestamp is right, because footage is only useful as evidence if the time is accurate.
  2. Choose your resolution and frame rate. 4K gives the most detail; 60fps gives smoother motion. Pick the balance you prefer, keeping in mind that higher settings fill the card faster.
  3. Adjust G-sensor sensitivity. The G-sensor locks a clip when it detects a jolt. On rough roads, a lower sensitivity stops potholes from filling the card with locked files.
  4. Pick your clip length. Shorter clips are quicker to download over Wi-Fi to your phone.
  5. Turn on the ADAS alerts you want. Lane departure and forward collision alerts help on highways; you may prefer some off in city traffic.
  6. Update the firmware. 70mai says the latest firmware is needed for its 4G features, and updates can add improvements too.

Who the A810 suits

  • Drivers who want 4K detail: the IMX678 and 4K resolution are the core of this camera.
  • Anyone who wants app control: live view, downloads and settings through the 70mai app.
  • Owners planning parking coverage: AI motion detection is a step up from simple motion triggers, once you add the hardwire kit.
  • Commuters who want GPS data: speed and location stamps help document an incident.

One limit to keep in mind: 70mai’s manual says not to use the camera above 60°C (140°F) or below -10°C (14°F). In a very hot climate, a sunshade and parking in the shade help keep the cabin within that range.

Bottom line

The 70mai A810 puts Sony’s STARVIS 2 IMX678 sensor, true 4K, HDR front and rear, GPS and ADAS alerts into a compact camera with a 3-inch screen. Add the rear camera for full coverage and the UP03 hardwire kit if you want AI parking surveillance. Just confirm you’re buying the A810 rather than the A810S, and pick up a good U3 card to go with it.
