My TORCHSTAR LED emergency light review: UL 924, dual heads with 12 LEDs each, 3.6V 1000mAh backup for 90 minutes, 120/277V, and my wiring and outage test.

Emergency lighting is one of those things most people don’t think about until the power goes out. In a business, it’s what lets everyone see the hallway and get out safely.

TORCHSTAR sent me its TORCHSTAR LED Emergency Light, and I wired it up, mounted it on a wall, and cut the power to test it. It’s bright, reliable, and a must-have for any business or commercial space.

In this LED emergency light review, I’ll cover the battery backup, installation, my power-cut test, brightness, certifications, the pros and cons, and who it’s for.

What Is the TORCHSTAR LED Emergency Light?

The TORCHSTAR LED Emergency Light is a UL 924 certified dual-head emergency fixture. It stays off while the power is on and switches on automatically from its built-in battery when the power fails.

Key Features

  • Battery backup: 3.6V 1000mAh rechargeable, over 90 minutes of light
  • UL 924 certified
  • Dual heads: 12 LED chips per head
  • 120V and 277V compatible
  • Surface mount backplate with hardware and connectors included
  • Impact-resistant thermoplastic housing
  • 2-year warranty

The Battery Backup

When I opened the housing, you can see the built-in 3.6V rechargeable battery that keeps it running for about 90 minutes during a power failure. That’s enough to keep hallways, exits, and work areas lit while people get out.

Installation

The installation was really simple and only took a few minutes:

  • Opened the housing to get to the battery compartment
  • Connected the three wires (black, white, and ground) with the included orange connectors
  • Mounted it to the wall with the included backplate and screws

My Power-Cut Test

It’s designed to stay off while the power is on. As soon as I cut power to test it, both LED heads lit up instantly with bright, even coverage. Each head has 12 LED chips, more than enough to light up a hallway or entryway in an emergency.

Where It Fits Best

It’s a great fit for restaurants, shops, offices, warehouses, schools, basements, auditoriums, and shopping centers, anywhere safe evacuation lighting matters.

Things to Consider Before Buying

  • Hardwired install: It connects to your building wiring, so hire an electrician if you’re not comfortable with it.
  • Runtime: About 90 minutes on battery, which covers evacuation, not a long outage.
  • Local codes: Check your local code for emergency lighting placement.
