How long will the EcoFlow Delta 3 Max run a CPAP? By our estimates, roughly 4 nights on AC or about 7 nights on 12V DC with the humidifier and heated tube off, and fewer nights with them on. This EcoFlow Delta 3 Max CPAP runtime guide shows the math for AC vs. DC and humidifier on vs. off, explains why DC wins for small loads, and covers EcoFlow’s own warnings about medical use.

What EcoFlow says: the Delta 3 Max user manual states the product “is not intended for powering life-sustaining medical equipment, including but not limited to medical-grade ventilators (hospital-grade CPAP…).” It also says to consult the equipment’s manufacturer before using it with other medical equipment, and warns about electromagnetic interference with implants such as pacemakers (manual safety items 15–16).

Testing note: We’ll measure a CPAP’s real draw with a watt meter, on AC and DC, humidifier on and off, but those tests aren’t filmed yet. Every runtime below is a calculated estimate. We make no claim that this setup is safe or suitable for your device or your health.

EcoFlow Delta 3 Max CPAP Runtime Estimates

CPAP setupWatts used for mathAC runtime (with ~25W inverter idle)DC runtime (12V socket)
CPAP (e.g., ResMed AirSense 11), humidifier/heated tube off~30W (range ~5–35W by pressure)~30–32h (~4 nights)~58–61h (~7 nights)
CPAP, humidifier on~55W (range ~35–60W)~20–22h (~2.6 nights)~32–34h (~4 nights)
CPAP, full heated tube65–72W peak~17–18h~25–26h
BiPAP / VPAP~45W (typical figure)~23–25h~39–41h

“Nights” assumes about 8 hours of use. All values are estimates based on published typical draws. Your machine’s real draw depends on pressure, humidity settings, mask leak and room temperature.

How We Did the CPAP Math

AC: hours ≈ 2,048Wh × 80–85% efficiency ÷ (CPAP watts + ~25W inverter idle).

DC: hours ≈ 2,048Wh × 85–90% ÷ CPAP watts. There’s no inverter idle on the DC path. EcoFlow doesn’t publish the DC overhead, so we’ll measure it.

Example, humidifier off at 30W: AC ≈ 1,640–1,740Wh ÷ 55W ≈ 30–32 hours. DC ≈ 1,740–1,840Wh ÷ 30W ≈ 58–61 hours.

The Solar Lab measured this unit’s AC efficiency at about 79% and idle draw at about 27W, which supports our assumptions. Owners in the r/CPAP community have measured AirSense 11 draws as low as 5–8W with heat off, so your numbers could be much better than this table. Or worse, at high pressure with heat on.

Why DC Beats AC for a CPAP

The Delta 3 Max’s AC inverter uses about 25W just to stay on. A CPAP with the humidifier off may only draw 30W. On AC, nearly half the energy goes to the inverter, not the CPAP.

Running from the 12V car socket (12.6V, 10A, 126W max) skips the inverter. For ResMed AirSense 11 owners, ResMed sells an Air11 DC/DC converter (input 12/24V; ResMed’s German shop lists a max draw around 90W), which fits under the 126W socket limit. Use the manufacturer’s DC accessory for your device, not a generic adapter, and ask your DME or the manufacturer whether it’s appropriate for you.

Humidifier On vs. Off

The heated humidifier and heated tube are the biggest power draws in a CPAP setup. Turning them off roughly doubles the number of nights in our estimates. Only do this with your doctor’s OK. ResMed’s own shop makes the same point. Some users find dry air uncomfortable or problematic, and that’s a medical decision, not a battery decision.

Comparing to Online Calculators

Runtime calculator sites give more conservative numbers because they usually assume AC power with heat on:

  • OutageMath estimates about 29 hours for a CPAP with a heated humidifier.
  • powerstations.reviews estimates about 32.8 hours for a CPAP with humidifier.

These are calculator estimates, not tests. Our AC humidifier-on estimate (20–22h at 55W) is lower because we include inverter idle draw and use a higher draw figure.

Setup Checklist Before You Rely on It

  1. Talk to your doctor and DME about battery backup for your specific device and prescription.
  2. Use the manufacturer’s DC cable or converter if you plan to run on 12V.
  3. Set the DC and AC timeouts to “Never” in the EcoFlow app. Owners of other EcoFlow models have reported DC ports shutting off overnight with a CPAP. Owners also report AC Auto Timeout shutting off low or intermittent loads.
  4. Do the app setup at home, on Wi-Fi, before any trip or emergency.
  5. Do a full overnight test at home before you ever need it.
  6. Keep it charged. Storm Guard in the app charges to 100% and holds it until the grid fails.
  7. Have a backup plan that doesn’t depend on this battery.

Using the Delta 3 Max’s UPS With a CPAP

The Delta 3 Max switches to battery in under 10ms when wall power drops. Plugged in as a pass-through, it can keep a CPAP running through a short outage without you waking up. But EcoFlow is explicit that this product is not life-support equipment. Treat the UPS as a convenience, not a medical safeguard.

Two CPAPs, a Fridge and Phones

One Amazon owner wrote: “It easily ran fridge, 2 cpaps, and phone chargers. Used gas generator to recharge this unit during the day.” That’s a realistic outage pattern: run essentials overnight, then refill the battery from a generator or solar. The Delta 3 Max refills 0–80% in about 68 minutes from AC power.

Other Medical Devices

  • Home oxygen concentrators like the Philips EverFlo (~350W at 5 LPM) would drain the Delta 3 Max in about 4.4–4.6 hours (estimate). Suppliers generally advise keeping oxygen cylinders as the primary outage backup. A power station is a bridge, not a plan.
  • Portable oxygen concentrators draw ~30–120W depending on setting. The best use is recharging the POC’s own batteries.
  • Insulin or medication fridges (~14W average) are estimated at ~42–45 hours on AC, or ~5 days on DC if the fridge has 12V input.
  • Power wheelchair and mobility scooter chargers (~30–200W) typically get about one full charge.

Traveling With a CPAP and the Delta 3 Max

Drive, don’t fly. At 2,048Wh, the Delta 3 Max is far over the FAA’s 160Wh limit for lithium batteries on passenger aircraft, carry-on or checked. For camping, the same DC-first rules apply. See our EcoFlow Delta 3 Max camping guide.
