Most 12V fridges stop cooling the moment you unplug them from the car. A growing group of portable fridges now carry their own battery instead. Anker says its SOLIX EverFrost 2 40L runs for up to 52 hours on one 288Wh LFP battery and about 4.3 days on two. EcoFlow rates its GLACIER Classic 35L at up to 43 hours on its 298Wh plug-in battery. BLUETTI built its MultiCooler around a swappable LFP pack shared with its power stations. Here’s how the three approaches compare, according to each maker’s product pages and manuals.

Why a built-in battery helps
A fridge that carries its own battery solves three everyday problems:
- Car off, fridge still on. You can stop at a trailhead or leave the car parked overnight without the fridge draining the starter battery. Our best 12V fridge for a car guide explains the low-voltage cutoffs you’d otherwise depend on.
- Carry it anywhere. Roll it from the trunk to a campsite, a beach or a hotel room and it keeps cooling.
- No power station needed. You don’t need to buy or haul a separate station just to keep food cold.
The trade-off is that the battery sits in the fridge. That adds weight, and the energy is reserved for cooling rather than shared with other gear.
Anker SOLIX EverFrost 2 40L: the most battery runtime
The EverFrost 2 has two battery compartments, which is its biggest strength. Anker includes one 288Wh LFP battery and sells a two-battery bundle. Anker rates 52 hours on one battery and about 4.3 days on two. Runtime depends on mode, ambient temperature and how full the cooler is, so treat these as best-case numbers.
Anker’s user guide lists AC charging at 95W max, solar at 100W (12–30V, 8.2A) and a USB-C port that charges at up to 60W and also outputs up to 60W. A 12W USB-A port lets the cooler top up phones. Anker’s FAQ notes that solar charging only works with at least one battery installed.
It has three cooling modes. Eco keeps the fan off for the quietest, longest runtime. Smart, the default, uses two temperature sensors to balance speed and battery. Max runs the fan and compressor hardest, and Anker says it pulls 77°F down to 32°F in about 15 minutes. At 55 lb with a battery, it rolls on 6-inch wheels with a retractable handle rather than being carried.

EcoFlow GLACIER Classic: dual zones plus an optional pack
EcoFlow’s GLACIER Classic comes in 35L and 45L sizes, with or without a 298Wh plug-in battery. It’s the only option here with two temperature zones, so one side can run as a fridge and the other as a freezer. EcoFlow quotes up to 43 hours on the battery for the 35L and up to 39 hours for the 45L. EcoFlow lists the 45L’s battery as an NCM pack rated for 800 cycles.
EcoFlow publishes unusually detailed energy figures. The 35L uses about 165Wh per 24 hours as a fridge at 39°F and 520Wh as a freezer at -0.4°F, both in a 77°F room. The 45L uses 190Wh as a fridge at 4°C and 750Wh as a freezer at -18°C. Charging options are a 12/24V car socket (100W), solar (11–30V, 8A, 110W max) and a 95W AC adapter. Our van-life fridge guide compares the 45L against other 45-liter fridges.

BLUETTI MultiCooler: fridge, freezer and ice maker
BLUETTI’s MultiCooler is a 42qt fridge-freezer with a built-in ice maker. BLUETTI’s FAQ says it takes 300–1,000 ml of water to make ice and has a self-cleaning cycle. It runs on BLUETTI’s B70 LFP battery, the same pack used in the AC180T power station. BLUETTI quotes up to 3 days of cooling on one battery and 0.18kWh per day in ECO mode.
BLUETTI says it’s IPX4 splash-resistant, connects to the BLUETTI app over Bluetooth and cools from 86°F to 32°F in about 15 minutes at under 45dB. Its anti-tilt protection shuts the compressor down past 45° and resumes below 35°. As with the Anker, solar charging needs the battery installed.
One thing to check before buying: on Oct. 17, 2026, BLUETTI’s store listed the MultiCooler alone at $699, while the B70 battery and the battery bundles were marked discontinued. If you already own an AC180T with B70 packs, the MultiCooler slots right into that system. Otherwise, confirm battery availability first. BLUETTI MultiCooler page.
Real-world runtime (estimates)
Makers test in mild conditions. Hot weather, frequent lid opening and warm food all shorten runtime. These estimates scale each maker’s claim by typical summer conditions. They’re my assumptions, not lab results.
| Setup | Maker claim | Hot weekend, 90°F, lid opened often (estimate) |
|---|---|---|
| EverFrost 2 40L, 1 battery | 52 h | ~30–40 h |
| EverFrost 2 40L, 2 batteries | ~4.3 days | ~2.5–3.5 days |
| GLACIER Classic 35L + battery | 43 h | ~25–35 h |
| GLACIER Classic 45L + battery | 39 h | ~22–30 h |
To stretch any of these, pre-chill the fridge and food on AC power at home, keep it in the shade, and open the lid less often.
Built-in battery vs fridge + power station
| Fridge with its own battery | Standard 12V fridge + power station | |
|---|---|---|
| Things to carry | One | Two |
| Energy for other gear | Limited (USB only, on the EverFrost 2) | Lights, laptop, CPAP, Starlink |
| Capacity | About 290–720Wh, depending on model and packs | Whatever station you choose, often 1–2kWh |
| Solar | About 100–110W max | Often 500W or more on the station |
| Best for | Day trips, tailgates, weekend car camping | Week-long trips, van builds, overlanding |
If you already own a power station, a standard 12V fridge running on the station’s DC output is usually the most efficient choice. Our Delta 3 Max 12V fridge test compares DC and AC runtime.
Which one fits your trips?
| You want… | Pick |
|---|---|
| The longest time away from the car | EverFrost 2 40L with two batteries |
| A fridge side and a freezer side at once | GLACIER Classic |
| The most compact fridge with a battery option | GLACIER Classic 35L |
| Ice cubes at camp | BLUETTI MultiCooler, if you have B70 packs |
| To charge phones from the fridge | EverFrost 2 (60W USB-C + 12W USB-A) |
Tips for battery fridges
- Charge the battery at home before the trip, and run the fridge on car power while you drive so the battery stays full for the stop.
- Use Eco mode once things are cold. EcoFlow’s battery runtime is measured in Eco mode, and Anker calls Eco its longest-runtime mode.
- Mind the charging temperature. Anker lists 32–104°F for charging the EverFrost 2 battery, so a frozen battery won’t charge until it warms up.
- Solar needs the battery in on the Anker and BLUETTI models. Both makers’ FAQs say solar charging only works with a battery installed.
- Keep it level. BLUETTI’s tilt protection is a reminder that compressors don’t like steep angles.
FAQ
Is there a 12V fridge with a built-in battery?
Yes. The Anker SOLIX EverFrost 2 includes a removable 288Wh LFP battery and holds two. The EcoFlow GLACIER Classic takes an optional 298Wh plug-in pack, and the BLUETTI MultiCooler uses BLUETTI’s B70 battery.
How long does a battery-powered fridge run?
Per the makers: up to 52 hours on one EverFrost 2 battery and about 4.3 days on two, and up to 43 hours for the GLACIER Classic 35L. Hot weather shortens those figures.
Can I charge the fridge battery with solar?
Yes, at up to 100W on the EverFrost 2 and 110W on the GLACIER Classic. Anker and BLUETTI require a battery to be installed for solar charging.
Can the fridge run while the battery charges?
Yes. On AC or car power, these fridges cool while the battery charges, which makes the drive a good time to top up.
Is a battery fridge better than a fridge plus power station?
For short trips and portability, yes. For longer trips or more gear, a power station gives you more capacity and more solar input.
Bottom line
For the most cooling away from the car, the Anker SOLIX EverFrost 2 40L with two batteries leads on runtime and adds USB charging. The EcoFlow GLACIER Classic is the pick for separate fridge and freezer zones in a lighter body. The BLUETTI MultiCooler’s ice maker is a fun extra for anyone already using BLUETTI’s B70 battery system.
