What We Like

  • Storage mode adjusts charge levels after 100% instead of trickle charging, ideal for winter storage.
  • Lithium mode works within lithium’s tight voltage limits.
  • Power supply mode turns it into a fixed-voltage DC source.
  • It can revive batteries from 0V, per Victron.

What to Watch

  • Single output: use the IP22 3-output model for multiple batteries.
  • Max 25A at 12V: big house banks charge slowly (see our sizing guide on the hub).

Charge Voltages by Mode (12V)

ModeAbsorptionFloatStorage
Normal14.4V13.8V13.2V
High14.7V13.8V13.2V
Li-ion14.2VNone13.5V

Recondition adds a 16.2V (Normal) or 16.5V (High) stage for lead-acid only. You choose the mode with the MODE button or in VictronConnect, and the setting is kept when the charger is unplugged. Custom voltages can be set in the app.

Setup and Troubleshooting Tips

  • Battery “rejected” with an error LED. The manual says reverse polarity, a short circuit or excessively high battery voltage causes the charger to reject the battery. Unplug AC power first, then check the connections.
  • TEST LED blinking for a while. That’s normal. The charger tests whether the battery will accept charge for up to 2 minutes.
  • Charging too fast for a small battery. Turn on low current mode. For example, the 12/25 drops from 25A to 10A.
  • Lithium won’t charge in the cold. Victron warns not to charge Li-ion below 0°C battery temperature.
  • Lithium battery at 0V after a BMS shutdown. The charger will try a low-current recovery charge on a deeply discharged battery, per Victron.
  • Lost Bluetooth PIN. Hold MODE for 10 seconds; all mode LEDs blink twice and the PIN resets to 000000. The default PIN is on the label on the back.
  • Less output on a hot day. Full rated output applies only up to 30°C.

Power Supply Mode

In VictronConnect, the charger can be set as a DC power supply at a fixed voltage, with or without a battery connected.

Choosing a Model by Battery Size

A common rule of thumb for lead-acid batteries is a charge current of 10–20% of the battery’s amp-hour capacity. Lithium batteries can usually accept more; check the battery maker’s limit.

BatterySuggested Blue Smart IP65
Motorcycle, 10–20Ah6V/12V 1.1A or 12/4
Car or small boat starter, 45–70Ah12/5, 12/7 or 12/10
RV house bank, 100–150Ah12/15
Large 12V bank, 200Ah or more12/25
24V truck or boat bank24/5, 24/8 or 24/13

Charge Time Worked Examples

Charger and batteryApprox. bulk time
12/25 into a 100Ah AGM at 50%about 2 hours, plus absorption
12/15 into a 100Ah LiFePO4 at 20%about 5.3 hours
12/7 into a 60Ah car battery at 50%about 4.3 hours, plus absorption

On the AC side, the 12/25 delivering 25A at 14.4V puts out about 360W. At 95% efficiency that’s about 380W from the wall, or roughly 3.2A at 120V.

Winter Storage Routine

  1. Charge the battery fully with the right mode (Normal, High or Li-ion).
  2. Leave the charger connected. Lead-acid modes move from absorption to float and then to storage at 13.2V; Li-ion mode has no float and goes to storage at 13.5V.
  3. Choose a dry, ventilated spot. The IP65 housing handles damp garages and boat lockers.
  4. Check the app occasionally over Bluetooth. You can see the charge state without opening covers.

Worked examples are arithmetic estimates from the published ratings above, not test results. Real numbers depend on temperature, cable runs, battery state and load.

FAQ

Can I leave it connected all winter?

Yes, Victron describes it as safe to leave on, with a storage mode for months of inactivity.

Does it charge LiFePO4?

Yes, with a dedicated lithium profile.

IP65 or IP22?

IP65 for wet or exposed spots; IP22 for indoor, higher current and multiple outputs.

Does it need temperature settings for lithium?

No. Temperature compensation (-16mV/°C) is automatically disabled in Li-ion mode.

How many charge stages?

Seven adaptive stages for lead-acid, four for Li-ion.

Can I lock the settings?

Yes. A Lock Mode Button option in the app stops the MODE button from changing settings.

Is there a model for 6V batteries?

Yes. The 6V/12V 1.1A model charges both 6V and 12V batteries, which suits classic motorcycles and small 6V batteries.

Which models suit 24V banks?

The 24V range comes in 5A, 8A and 13A versions.

Will it run on a small generator?

Yes. The largest 12V model draws roughly 380W from the AC side at full output, well within the capacity of a small inverter generator.

Is it noisy?

No. The IP65 housing is sealed and cooled without a fan, so it charges silently, which suits bedrooms in an RV or a cabin on a boat.
