Camping in the heat can turn a fun trip into a long, sweaty night inside a tent. Fans just push hot air around, and most traditional air conditioners aren’t made to move from place to place. That’s why I wanted to try a portable AC designed specifically for camping.

How I Used It: Cooling a Camping Tent
For this test, I set up the BougeRV PC35 with my tent to show its cooling in a real camping setup. One thing I wanted to show was how quickly it starts producing cold air and how well the airflow reaches through a small space.
Long-Range Airflow
I also demonstrate the long-range cooling performance. In the video, you can see that the airflow is still noticeable several feet away from the unit, and BougeRV rates it for airflow up to 10 feet away. That’s useful when the air conditioner isn’t sitting right next to you, like at the foot of a tent or on the other side of a camper.
Easy to Carry
The built-in handle is a feature I like. Since this unit is designed for portability, the ergonomic handle makes it easier to carry between campsites, an RV, a vehicle, or different spots around camp. Keep in mind it weighs about 34 pounds, so it’s portable, but it’s not light.
Five Operating Modes
In the video, I walk through all five modes: Cooling, Dehumidifying, Fan, Strong, and Sleep. Having several modes lets you adjust things depending on the weather and your comfort. Strong mode is for cooling down fast, Sleep mode is for overnight, and Dehumidifying helps on muggy days.
App Control
The BougeRV app is another nice addition. You can change the temperature, mode, and timer without getting up and physically touching the unit, which is great when you’re already settled in your sleeping bag.
Power Requirements: Read This Before You Buy
This is important if you plan to run the PC35 off a portable power station or inverter. BougeRV notes that the compressor’s startup power can reach 2 kW (110V, 18A max), and it recommends an inverter with a continuous output of at least 2 kW. Make sure your power source can handle that startup surge before heading out.
