EcoFlow Delta Pro Ultra Whole-Home Backup Review

The EcoFlow Delta Pro Ultra sits between a portable power station and a permanent home battery. It’s a stackable inverter and battery system on wheels that can back up a whole home through EcoFlow’s Smart Home Panel 2. This review uses EcoFlow’s published specs. We haven’t tested one ourselves.

A widely viewed look at Delta Pro Ultra home backup.

Electrical work can be dangerous: follow the manual, fuse and size every cable correctly, and use a licensed electrician for anything connected to household wiring.

Can I use the Delta Pro Ultra without the Smart Home Panel 2?

Yes, as a large power station using its own outlets. Whole-home backup through your panel needs the Smart Home Panel 2 and an electrician.

How heavy is the Delta Pro Ultra?

Each inverter and battery is a separate heavy module. Check EcoFlow’s spec page for the current weights before planning where it goes.

Can the Delta Pro Ultra charge from an EV charger?

EcoFlow lists EV-charger charging among its input options. Check EcoFlow’s product page for the compatible adapter and charging rates.

Does the Delta Pro Ultra work in cold weather?

EcoFlow lists an operating range of −4°F to 113°F. Check charging temperature limits in the manual, since lithium batteries charge in a narrower range.

Is the Delta Pro Ultra a UPS?

EcoFlow describes it as an online UPS with 0 ms transfer.

Price

EcoFlow’s US store listed an $8,999 bundle that includes installation at the time of writing. Configurations and promotions change, so check EcoFlow’s site. There’s no 25D credit for homeowner-owned systems installed after 2025.

What We Like

  • Scales a lot: from 6 kWh to 90 kWh
  • Portable option: roll it out for an RV or job site
  • Generator and EV-charger charging options
  • Big solar input for its class

Things to Know

  • Whole-home use needs the Smart Home Panel 2, installed by an electrician. EcoFlow’s install offer covers wiring the panel, not rooftop solar.
  • Rooftop PV connection requires rapid shutdown under NEC rules and a pre-purchase consult (EcoFlow FAQ).
  • “Silent” mode applies only under 2,000W, for up to 30 minutes, per EcoFlow’s note.
  • Heavy: each inverter and battery is a separate, heavy module.

Who It’s For

Homeowners who want serious backup without a traditional installer battery, renters planning to move, and anyone who wants one system for home, RV and job site.

How It Compares

Against a Powerwall 3 (13.5 kWh, 11.5 kW), one Delta Pro Ultra inverter with two batteries gives 12 kWh and 7.2 kW. It has less power per unit but adds portability and more flexible scaling.

Configurations and What They Deliver

Using EcoFlow’s figures (6 kWh per battery, 7.2 kW per inverter, up to 15 batteries and 3 inverters):

SetupEnergyAC outputRuntime at 1.5 kW average
1 inverter + 1 battery6 kWh7.2 kWabout 4 h
1 inverter + 2 batteries12 kWh7.2 kWabout 8 h
1 inverter + 5 batteries30 kWh7.2 kWabout 20 h
3 inverters + 15 batteries90 kWh21.6 kW (with Smart Home Panel 2)about 60 h

Runtimes are simple energy ÷ load math, before losses and recharge. More batteries mean longer runtime. More inverters mean more power at once.

Worked Example: Can It Start My AC?

EcoFlow’s FAQ says one unit can start a 3-ton central AC if the compressor’s LRA is 120 A or less.

  1. Find the LRA on the outdoor unit’s nameplate.
  2. If it’s under 120 A, one Delta Pro Ultra inverter is within EcoFlow’s stated limit.
  3. Add up what else runs at the same time. The AC plus fridge plus other loads must stay under 7.2 kW per inverter.
  4. If the AC’s LRA is higher, ask about a soft starter, or plan more inverters.

Worked Example: Recharging With Solar

Each inverter accepts up to 5.6 kW of solar. On a day when PVWatts estimates about 4.5 kWh per kW of panels (example figure), a 5.6 kW array would make about 25 kWh. That’s enough to refill 12 kWh of batteries and cover about 13 kWh of daytime use. Cloudy days would produce much less. For sizing panels, see how many solar panels do I need.

Smart Home Panel 2 and Home Wiring

For whole-home or multi-circuit backup, EcoFlow pairs the Delta Pro Ultra with the Smart Home Panel 2, a transfer panel installed by an electrician. It switches selected circuits to battery power in an outage. Without it, the unit can still power loads through its own outlets, like a large power station. Battery Life in Numbers

EcoFlow lists 3,500+ cycles to 80% capacity. At one full cycle a day, 3,500 cycles is about 9.6 years. In backup-only use with occasional cycles, the battery would see far fewer cycles. See depth of discharge and cycle life for why partial cycles matter.

Step-by-Step: Planning a Delta Pro Ultra Setup

  1. List backup loads and add up simultaneous watts. Stay within 7.2 kW per inverter.
  2. Add daily kWh and pick a battery count (kWh ÷ 6).
  3. Decide on the Smart Home Panel 2 for whole-home or multi-circuit backup.
  4. Plan how it will recharge: grid, solar, generator or EV charger.
  5. If adding rooftop solar, plan rapid shutdown and a consult, as EcoFlow’s FAQ notes.
  6. Compare with other options in home battery backup for power outage.

FAQ

Can the Delta Pro Ultra run central AC?

EcoFlow says one unit can start a 3-ton central AC if its LRA is 120A or less.

Does it connect to rooftop solar?

It can, but it needs rapid shutdown compliance and an electrician’s review.

How long will it run a house?

Example math: 12 kWh ÷ a 1.5 kW average ≈ 8 hours, before recharging.
