Victron Blue Smart IP67 Charger: Waterproof Charging Specs and Uses

This Victron Blue Smart IP67 charger review covers Victron’s fully waterproof battery charger. It’s built to be mounted permanently in a boat, a trailer or a machine that lives outside. It has the same Bluetooth app control as the other Blue Smart chargers, in a sealed cast-aluminum case. All the specs here come from Victron’s 120V datasheet.

Common specs: 100–135V AC input, 0.5W no-load draw, IP67, 5ft (1.5m) battery cables, a 5ft AC cord with a NEMA 5-15 plug, and UL 1236 and CSA C22.2 listings.

High14.7V13.8V13.2V

12V values. The 24V models use double.

The charger uses a 5-stage adaptive algorithm: bulk, absorption, recondition, float and storage.

What Stands Out

  • Truly waterproof. Victron says water, oil and dirt won’t damage it. The electronics are potted in a cast-aluminum case.
  • Efficient. Victron rates it at 92% or better, which means much less waste heat than older chargers.
  • Wide temperature range: -30°C to +60°C, at full output up to 40°C.
  • Bluetooth app control for changing modes and updating firmware.

Mounting and Setup

Mount it on a vertical surface away from the battery’s vent gases, then connect the battery leads before plugging in the AC cord. Choose the charge mode in VictronConnect over Bluetooth. The app also shows live voltage and current and lets you set a custom charge profile.

Who It’s For

  • Boats that charge from shore power, with the charger mounted in a wet locker.
  • Trailers, golf carts and equipment that live outside.
  • Anyone tired of replacing cheap chargers that corrode.

Limits

  • Fixed cables. The battery and AC leads are attached, so plan the mounting spot around their length.
  • 12V and 24V only, with no multi-bank outputs. The Blue Smart IP22 or Smart IP43 offer more outputs.
  • Lower top current than the IP43. For a large house bank, the 12/25 may be slow.

Victron lists every Blue Smart IP67 Charger variant, with datasheets, on its official product page.

Worked Example: A Boat House Bank on Shore Power

A 30-foot boat with a 200Ah AGM house bank, often down to about 50% after a weekend aboard:

  • Ah to replace: about 100Ah.
  • IP67 12/25: about 4 hours in bulk, then absorption, so the bank is full by the next morning (estimate).
  • IP67 12/13: about 7.7 hours in bulk, plus absorption (estimate).

For a 200Ah AGM, the 10–20% rule of thumb suggests 20–40A, so the 12/25 fits well, and LOW mode (10A) is there for gentle maintenance.

Worked Example: A Golf Cart or Utility Vehicle on 24V

A 24V utility vehicle with two 12V 100Ah batteries in series, parked outside:

  • IP67 24/12: around 4 hours to replace 50Ah (estimate), and the charger can stay bolted to the frame through rain and wash-downs.
  • IP67 24/5: best kept for maintenance or smaller 24V banks.

Worked Example: Heat and Output

The IP67 holds full output up to 40°C and keeps working to 60°C at reduced output. In a closed engine room that reaches 50°C on a summer afternoon, expect less than the label current, so a charge may take longer. Mounting it low in the space, where air is cooler, helps.

Installation Steps

  1. Choose a vertical spot within 5ft (1.5m) of the battery for the fixed DC leads and within reach of an outlet for the AC cord.
  2. Bolt it through the mounting holes in the cast case; it’s built to handle vibration.
  3. Connect the positive lead to the battery positive and the negative to the battery negative (or the chassis, away from the battery, on a vehicle).
  4. Plug the AC cord into a GFCI-protected outlet.
  5. Open VictronConnect, change the PIN, and set the charge mode.
  6. Optional: join a VE.Smart network with a Smart Battery Sense or SmartShunt for real battery voltage and temperature.

Choosing a Size

BatterySuggested IP67 model
12V 30–60Ah (outboard start battery, small trailer)12/7
12V 60–120Ah12/13 or 12/17
12V 120–250Ah house bank12/25
24V 50–100Ah24/5 or 24/8
24V 100–200Ah24/12

What the Recondition Stage Does

For flooded and some AGM batteries, the optional recondition stage applies a higher voltage at limited current after absorption to help balance cells. It’s off by default and should only be used if your battery maker recommends it. It’s never used for lithium.

Using LOW Mode

LOW mode is set in VictronConnect.

LOW mode cuts the current to between 2A and 10A depending on the model. That suits small batteries, keeps a large charger from overpowering a motorcycle battery, and reduces the load on a small generator or weak shore supply.

FAQ

Can the Blue Smart IP67 charge LiFePO4?

Yes. Use the Li-ion mode (14.2V absorption).

Can it stay connected all winter?

Yes. Storage mode is designed for long-term connection.

Can I charge two batteries with one IP67?

It has one output. For two batteries, use two chargers or a model with multiple outputs, such as the Blue Smart IP22 3-output.

Is it ignition protected?

Victron lists ignition protection for the IP67 range, which matters for petrol engine compartments.

Does it work on 230V?

This article covers the 120V models. Victron also sells 230V versions; check the matching datasheet.

What happens if the battery is very flat?

Blue Smart chargers can start a deeply discharged battery at a reduced current before full bulk charging. Check your model’s manual for the minimum starting voltage.
