The Victron Peak Power Pack is a compact LiFePO4 battery built for short bursts of high current, especially caravan movers. Victron describes it as a complete substitute for heavy lead-acid batteries where high currents occur for a short time. It has a built-in charger, so it can charge from the tow vehicle while you drive, from the supplied mains adapter, or from a solar panel. Here are the official specs.

Other shared specs:
- Chemistry: LiFePO4
- DC input range: 11-25V, with a 7A current limit on the built-in charger
- Mains adapter: 110V or 230V in, 15V / 3A out
- Operating temperature: charging 0 to 40°C, discharging -20 to 40°C
- Protection: overload, short circuit, temperature and excessive discharge
How Charging Works
Victron’s main idea: the pack charges from the car’s electrical system while you tow, so it’s full when you arrive at the campsite. If needed, use the supplied adapter on a grid outlet. You can also charge from solar through the car/solar input.
Outputs
The pack has separate outputs. The mover output uses 16 mm² (6 AWG) screw terminals and the domestic output uses 6 mm² (10 AWG) terminals. Car and solar input use pluggable screw terminals. A short press of the supplied button turns on the mover output for 30 minutes. A VE.Direct port connects to VictronConnect with a VE.Direct to USB cable or a VE.Direct Bluetooth Smart dongle.
Self-Discharge and Storage
Victron lists under 1.4 mA of self-discharge when activated, and under 0.7 mA in storage mode. Use storage mode over the winter.
No Parallel or Series
Victron’s datasheet says the Peak Power Pack is not suitable for parallel or series connection. You can’t stack two for more capacity.
Who It’s For
- Caravan mover owners replacing a heavy AGM.
- Short high-current loads, such as winches or pumps, with a built-in charger.
Who Should Skip It
- Full off-grid systems. At 256-512 Wh it’s small, and it’s not a house battery.
- Cold-weather charging. It charges only from 0 to 40°C.
Good to Know Before You Buy
- Limited capacity.
- Narrow temperature range.
- Bluetooth needs a dongle.

Worked Example: How Many Mover Pitches per Charge?
A caravan mover typically draws a high current only while it’s actually moving the caravan. Say a mover averages 100A while running and a pitch takes 3 minutes of actual motor time (illustrative figures; check your mover’s manual):
- Energy per pitch: 100A × 0.05h ≈ 5Ah.
- 20Ah pack: roughly 3 to 4 pitches if you use about 80% of capacity (16Ah ÷ 5Ah).
- 40Ah pack: roughly 6 pitches on the same basis.
Estimates. For most touring, where you pitch once or twice per stop, even the 20Ah pack covers each site, and it recharges from the tow vehicle on the next drive.
Worked Example: Recharging While Towing
The built-in charger is limited to 7A. Recharging 16Ah after a couple of pitches takes about 16 ÷ 7 ≈ 2.3 hours of driving. A full 40Ah pack from 20% (32Ah) takes about 4.6 hours (estimates assuming the full 7A throughout). On a typical travel day, the pack arrives at the next campsite full or nearly full. On a short hop, the mains adapter (15V/3A) tops it up overnight on hookup.
Weight Comparison
One of the main reasons to choose the pack is weight. The 20Ah pack is 3.8kg and the 40Ah is 8.6kg. A lead-acid leisure battery used for a mover often weighs 20–25kg (typical figure; varies by model), so swapping to the Peak Power Pack can save well over 10kg of payload, which matters in a caravan with a tight weight limit.
Choosing Between 20Ah, 30Ah and 40Ah
| Pack | Stored energy | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| 20Ah | 256Wh | Mover only, light touring, lowest weight |
| 30Ah | 384Wh | Mover plus small domestic loads |
| 40Ah | 512Wh | Mover plus more domestic use between drives |
All three have the same 150A continuous and 200A 10-second mover rating, so the choice comes down to how much capacity you want for pitching and domestic loads.
Using the Domestic Output
The 30A domestic output can run small 12V loads such as LED lights, a water pump or phone charging. At 30A it can power a fair amount, but with 256–512Wh of storage, it’s best for light use or a short stay. For example, a 5A load runs for about 41 hours on a 40Ah pack at 80% usable capacity (estimate).
Installation Tips
- Mount the pack close to the mover’s control box to keep the 16mm² cables short.
- Run a fused feed from the tow vehicle’s charge line to the car/solar input.
- Connect the domestic output through a fuse to your 12V distribution, if you’re using it.
- Fit the supplied button where it’s easy to reach when you pitch.
- Connect VictronConnect through a VE.Direct dongle to check state of charge and settings.
Monitoring in VictronConnect
With the VE.Direct Bluetooth Smart dongle, VictronConnect shows the pack’s state of charge, voltage, current and charge status. It’s also where you put the pack into storage mode for the winter.
FAQ
Can the Victron Peak Power Pack run a caravan mover?
Yes. Victron designed it primarily for movers, with 150A continuous and 200A for 10 seconds.
How do I charge it?
From the tow vehicle while driving, with the supplied mains adapter, or from solar.
Does it have Bluetooth?
Not built in. Add a VE.Direct Bluetooth Smart dongle.
Can I charge the Peak Power Pack from solar?
Yes. A solar panel can connect to the car/solar input, within the 11–25V input range.
How long does storage mode last?
With under 0.7mA of self-discharge in storage mode, a full pack holds its charge for many months (estimate); topping it up before the season is still good practice.
