Can you use the EcoFlow Delta 3 Max without Wi-Fi, without internet or without the app at all? It’s a fair worry: the reason you buy a backup battery is for the moments when the grid (and often the internet) is down. Here’s what works offline, what we’ve seen reported, and how to set the unit up so that a lost connection never stands between you and power.

Testing note: Our “Wi-Fi off” video is scheduled. This guide is based on EcoFlow’s manual, owner reports and YouTube comments. EcoFlow updates its app and firmware regularly, so behavior can change; verify on your own unit.
What Works With No App and No Internet
The basics are controlled by physical buttons on the unit:
- Power on/off
- AC output on/off
- DC (12V) output on/off
- USB ports
- The front display, showing battery percentage, input and output watts
Charging from the wall, solar, a car or a generator also happens without the app. So does the UPS function: when the unit is plugged in and the grid fails, it switches to battery in under 10ms on its own. You don’t need a phone to get power out of a Delta 3 Max.
What Needs the App
Settings live in the app, connected over Bluetooth 5.0 or 2.4GHz Wi-Fi:
- AC and DC timeouts
- Charge and discharge limits, and charge speed
- X-Boost
- Storm Guard, TOU, Self-Powered mode and scheduled tasks
- Output Port Memory and bypass settings
- Firmware updates and warranty registration
Settings you’ve already saved stay on the unit, so if you set AC Timeout to “Never” before the outage, you don’t need the app during it.
What Owners Have Reported
- An Amazon reviewer passed on advice that Wi-Fi is needed to complete the initial installation, and recommended doing setup before going off-grid.
- A YouTube commenter said their EcoFlow products wouldn’t connect in an emergency without an internet connection and a valid login, despite having Bluetooth, and that they were unhappy with support’s response.
- Other owners report pairing easily, starting over Bluetooth and then moving to Wi-Fi.
We can’t confirm exactly when the app requires a cloud login versus a direct Bluetooth connection. That may vary by app version. The safe assumption: don’t count on changing settings during an internet outage.
Prepare Before You Need It
- Complete setup at home on Wi-Fi. Pair, update the firmware and register the 5-year warranty.
- Set the critical settings now: AC Timeout and DC Timeout to “Never” for fridges, CPAPs and freezers; a discharge reserve if you want one; a charge speed suited to your generator.
- Turn on Storm Guard before forecast storms; it holds the battery at 100% until the grid fails.
- Test a Bluetooth-only connection. Turn off your phone’s Wi-Fi and mobile data, open the app near the unit and see what you can change. Write down the results.
- Print or save a cheat sheet of your settings and of what the front buttons do.
Can You Turn Off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth?
A YouTube commenter asked whether the radios can be turned off because they don’t want the unit “transmitting anything.” EcoFlow’s US product page lists Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for app control, but we haven’t found a documented way to fully disable both radios on the Delta 3 Max. Practical options:
- Don’t connect it to Wi-Fi after setup, or forget the network in the app. It can’t reach the cloud without a network.
- Put it on a guest or IoT network that’s isolated from your main devices.
- Check the app’s settings and EcoFlow’s support pages for radio controls, which may be added in firmware updates.
Off-Grid Living and Remote Cabins
If you live or camp somewhere without internet:
- Do every setting change and firmware update while you’re on a network, then rely on the buttons.
- Treat the front display as your main monitor: it shows battery percentage and live watts.
- Log real watt readings for your appliances while you have the app, so you can estimate runtimes later with our formula, hours ≈ 2,048Wh × 0.80–0.85 ÷ (load + ~25W idle).
Our X-Boost and app settings guide shows key settings in action, and our home backup guide explains what to plug in first.
Is the App Dependence a Deal-Breaker?
For most buyers, no: the hardware works without it, and settings persist. For buyers who want to manage everything without any cloud account, it’s a fair concern, and it’s one of the recurring complaints in our Delta 3 Max review research. If that’s you, know that Amazon lists the unit as non-returnable for hazmat reasons (damaged or defective units excepted), so research the app workflow before you buy.
