Can the EcoFlow Delta 3 Max keep your basement dry, your room warm or your bedroom cool during an outage? Yes for a sump pump, briefly for a space heater, and for a few hours with a small window AC. These are the three loads people ask about most after the fridge, and each one runs into a different limit: startup surge, raw energy, or both.

Testing note: Our sump pump, DREO space heater and Midea window AC tests are scheduled. Everything below is a labeled estimate from typical wattages and our formula: hours ≈ 2,048Wh × 0.80–0.85 ÷ (load + ~25W idle).
Delta 3 Max Limits That Matter Here
- 2,400W continuous across four 120V outlets
- 4,800W surge for motor starts
- About 1,640–1,740Wh of usable AC energy per charge
- X-Boost (3,400W) for resistive heaters only, and not during charging or pass-through
Sump Pump: Yes, and This Is a Great Use
A 1/3 HP sump pump runs a few hundred watts while pumping and needs a brief startup spike well within the 4,800W surge rating for most residential pumps. Pumps cycle on and off, so the average draw is what counts. At about 160W average, our estimate is roughly 9 hours of protection (OutageMath estimates about 11 hours). In a heavy storm with constant pumping, expect less; in a light rain, much more.
Setup tips:
- Check your pump’s nameplate for running amps and confirm the start-up demand with the manufacturer if you can.
- Set AC Timeout to “Never”, or the inverter may shut off between pump cycles.
- Put the Delta 3 Max above the floor and away from water. It has no published IP rating.
- Use Storm Guard before a forecast storm so you start full.
- Never back-feed a home circuit to reach a hard-wired pump. If the pump is hard-wired, an electrician needs to provide a proper plug-in or transfer solution.
Space Heater: Yes, but Only for About an Hour
A 1,500W space heater such as the DREO Space Heater with Thermostat or the Lasko 751320 Ceramic Tower will drain a full Delta 3 Max in about 1.1 hours on high. Electric resistance heat is simply energy-hungry. On a low setting (often ~750W), you might get a little over 2 hours.
Make it count:
- Heat one small room, close the door, and use the heater’s thermostat or eco mode.
- Pre-warm a bedroom before sleep, then switch to blankets.
- An electric blanket or heated throw (around 60W) runs roughly 19–20 hours, far more warmth per watt-hour than a space heater.
- Never cover the heater or run it unattended. Follow its safety instructions.
Window AC: A Few Hours of Cooling
A small 5,000 BTU unit like the Frigidaire 5,000 BTU or an inverter model like the Midea 8,000 BTU Smart Inverter draws roughly 450–700W while running. Our estimate is about 2.5–3.5 hours of cooling. Inverter ACs ramp up gently and draw less once the room cools, so they’re usually the friendlier choice for a battery. Fixed-speed units have a sharper startup spike, so test yours before a heat wave.
Cool smarter:
- Cool one small bedroom, and use the AC to pre-cool before bedtime.
- Switch to a fan afterward. A tower fan such as the DREO Tower Fan uses a small fraction of the energy.
- Close blinds on sunny windows.
Combined Outage Plan
| Priority | Load | Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Fridge/freezer | Always on; set AC Timeout to Never |
| 2 | Sump pump (storm) | Always on during heavy rain |
| 3 | Router, phones, lights | USB-C and 12V where possible |
| 4 | Heater or AC | Short, targeted sessions only |
Don’t run a 1,500W heater and a sump pump at the same time. The heater could leave too little headroom when the pump starts. A generator or solar to recharge in between turns this from a few hours into a multi-day plan. See our home backup guide and our Max vs Max Plus outage comparison.
Delta 3 Max Outage Safety Notes
- Plug appliances directly into the station or into a heavy-duty cord rated for the load. Don’t daisy-chain power strips for heaters or AC units.
- Keep space heaters clear of bedding, curtains and the station itself, and never leave one running unattended.
- Sump pumps sit in wet pits. Keep the station high and dry, and route the cord so water can’t run down it to the outlet.
- Hard-wired equipment and any connection to your home’s wiring need a licensed electrician and a listed transfer switch or interlock. This guide isn’t electrical advice.
What the Delta 3 Max Can’t Run
- Central air conditioning or a heat pump (most are 240V and far beyond 2,400W)
- 240V well pumps (no 240V output)
- Electric baseboard heat for a whole home
- Furnaces with hard-wired blowers, unless an electrician provides a safe connection

Sump Pump, Heater and AC FAQ
Will the Delta 3 Max run a 1/2 HP sump pump?
Likely, if the pump’s startup surge stays under 4,800W and the running draw under 2,400W. Check the nameplate, and test it before a storm.
How long will the Delta 3 Max run a space heater?
About 1.1 hours at 1,500W, and about 2 hours at 750W (our estimates).
Can I use X-Boost for a space heater?
X-Boost is designed for resistive heating loads, but it lowers voltage, which reduces heat output. It doesn’t add energy, so runtime won’t improve.
Can the Delta 3 Max run a window air conditioner overnight?
Not a full night for most units. Expect about 2.5–3.5 hours from a 5,000 BTU unit, then switch to a fan.
