MultiPlus-II vs EasySolar-II GX isn’t really a contest between different technologies. The EasySolar-II GX is a MultiPlus-II, with a SmartSolar MPPT and a GX device prewired into the same enclosure. So the real choice is between building with separate parts and buying one integrated box. Voltage, serviceability and installation time decide it.

Why Choose the EasySolar-II GX
- Faster install. Victron wires the MPPT’s DC output in parallel with the inverter’s DC input inside the unit, and the MultiPlus-II on/off switch also controls the MPPT.
- Built-in GX with Ethernet, USB, VE.Direct, Wi-Fi and a BMS-Can port for compatible managed batteries, plus free VRM monitoring.
- High-voltage solar. The 250V MPPT accepts longer series strings than a 150V controller.
Why Choose Separate Parts
- 120V and 120/240V. The EasySolar-II GX is a 230V product. In North America, build with a 120V or 2x120V MultiPlus-II.
- Serviceability. With separate parts, you can swap just one. With the EasySolar, the whole unit comes out.
- Weight. The EasySolar-II weighs 26kg (3kVA) to 38.6kg (5kVA) in one piece. Separate parts are lighter to lift and mount.
- Scaling. Add a second MPPT, a bigger GX screen or a parallel MultiPlus-II without replacing anything.
- Temperature. The EasySolar-II operates from -20 to +45°C, while the MultiPlus-II is rated from -40 to +60°C.
Note on BMS-Can
Victron notes the EasySolar’s BMS-Can port works only with compatible CAN-bus batteries, not with other VE.Can devices. Check your battery against Victron’s compatibility list.
Which to Buy
- 230V cabin or small home, tidy install wanted: EasySolar-II GX.
- US voltages, mobile builds or a system you’ll expand: MultiPlus-II plus SmartSolar and a Cerbo GX.
Datasheets and manuals for the Victron EasySolar-II GX and MultiPlus-II are on Victron’s website.
Worked Example: A 230V Cabin With the EasySolar-II 48/5000
A 230V off-grid cabin with a 48V 15kWh lithium bank and 5kW of solar panels:
- The built-in MPPT 250/100 accepts up to 5,800W of PV, so 5kW of panels fits with headroom (estimate).
- The 4,000W continuous inverter covers a fridge, washing machine and well pump, one large load at a time.
- The built-in GX reads the CAN-bus battery, runs DVCC and reports to VRM.
- Install time is lower, since the MPPT, inverter/charger and GX are already wired together inside one case.
Worked Example: Solar String Sizing
With panels rated around 45V open-circuit voltage:
- On the EasySolar-II’s 250V MPPT, a string of five gives about 225V at 25°C. In cold weather, open-circuit voltage rises, so check the panel’s temperature coefficient and your coldest morning before settling on five (estimate).
- On a separate 150V SmartSolar, a string of three gives about 135V, leaving cold-weather margin (estimate).
Longer strings mean fewer parallel strings, thinner cable and less combiner hardware, which is one of the EasySolar-II’s practical advantages.
Worked Example: A North American Home Backup Build
A US home with a 120/240V panel uses separate parts instead:
- Two MultiPlus-II 120V units in split-phase, or a single MultiPlus-II 2x120V, for 120/240V output.
- A SmartSolar MPPT 250/70 or 250/100 sized to the array.
- A Cerbo GX with a GX Touch 50 or 70 on the wall.
- A Lynx distribution system to tie the DC side together.
Each part can be swapped or upgraded on its own as the system grows.
Installation Comparison
| Step | Separate parts | EasySolar-II GX |
|---|---|---|
| — | — | — |
| Wall mounting | Three or more units | One unit |
| DC wiring between MPPT and inverter | Installer wires it | Done inside |
| GX setup | Separate Cerbo GX | Built in |
| Lifting | Several lighter parts | One 26–38.6kg unit |
| Future upgrades | Swap single parts | Add parts alongside |
Expanding Later
Both routes can grow. On an EasySolar-II, add separate VE.Direct or VE.Can MPPTs, monitored by the built-in GX, for more solar. With separate parts, add another MPPT, a second MultiPlus-II in parallel, or a larger GX screen. In both cases, plan battery capacity alongside the extra solar and inverter power.
Monitoring Either System
Both end up with a GX device, so day-to-day monitoring looks the same: the Overview page, VRM portal, Remote Console and alarms. The EasySolar’s GX is just inside the box rather than on the wall beside it.
Weight and Mounting
The EasySolar-II weighs 26kg for the 3kVA and 38.6kg for the 5kVA, all in one unit. Plan for two people to lift it and a wall that can carry it, such as a masonry wall or a timber frame with solid backing. With separate parts, each piece is lighter, but you’ll need more wall space and cable trays between them.
Operating Temperature
The EasySolar-II operates from -20 to +45°C. In an unheated cabin or a hot equipment shed, mount it where temperatures stay in that range. The MultiPlus-II’s wider -40 to +60°C rating gives more flexibility for exposed or unheated locations.
Who Each Route Suits Best
- EasySolar-II GX: installers and owners in 230V markets who want a neat, quick install with fewer parts on the wall.
- Separate parts: North American builds, mobile systems, and anyone planning to expand or swap parts over time.
FAQ
Is the EasySolar-II GX available in 120V?
Not per the current datasheet, which lists 230V models.
Can I add more solar to an EasySolar-II?
Yes. Add separate MPPTs. The built-in GX can manage them.
Does it need a separate Cerbo GX?
No. The GX device is built in.
Can the EasySolar-II GX run in parallel?
Victron’s datasheet lists parallel and three-phase options for the EasySolar-II GX. Check the manual for the configuration you need.
Does the built-in MPPT share the AC charger’s current limit?
With DVCC enabled, the GX coordinates the MPPT and the inverter/charger, so together they stay within the battery’s charge current limit.
Is the EasySolar-II GX good for an RV?
It’s a 230V product, so it’s best for European or Australian RVs. For North American RVs, use a MultiPlus-II 120V with a separate MPPT and Cerbo GX.
