The EcoFlow Delta 3 Max can charge from solar, but its window is narrow: one XT60i port, 11–60V, 13A operating current and 500W max. Get the panels and wiring right and you can refill most of the 2,048Wh battery in an afternoon of good sun. Get them wrong and you either waste panel wattage or go over the voltage limit. This EcoFlow Delta 3 Max solar setup guide covers which panels fit, how to wire two panels, and what charge times to expect.

EcoFlow Delta 3 Max Solar Input Specs
| Spec | Delta 3 Max |
|---|---|
| Solar port | 1× XT60i |
| Voltage range | 11–60V |
| Operating current | 13A |
| Max solar input | 500W |
| Manual limits for the array | Total Voc ≤60V, Isc ≤18A |
| EcoFlow charge claim | 0–80% in 3.43 hours at 500W |
| Shared port | The same XT60i port handles car charging (12V/24V, 8A) |
Two numbers do most of the work: open-circuit voltage (Voc) must stay at or below 60V, and current should fit the 13A operating / 18A Isc limits. Every panel’s label lists Voc and Isc. Check them before you wire anything.
What’s not in the box: the Delta 3 Max doesn’t include a solar cable. You need an MC4-to-XT60i cable. EcoFlow panels usually ship with one, but confirm on the panel’s listing.
Best Solar Panels for the EcoFlow Delta 3 Max
Best match: 2× EcoFlow NextGen 220W bifacial in series
Each EcoFlow 220W panel is rated Voc 21.5V and Isc 12.4A. Two in series give about 43V and 12.4A, comfortably under 60V and within the current limit, for about 440W nominal. That’s the closest you can get to the 500W cap with EcoFlow’s portable panels without going over. The Amazon listing also sells a Delta 3 Max + 220W bundle and a +2×220W variant.
Simplest: 1× EcoFlow 400W portable panel
EcoFlow’s 400W portable panel is rated about 48V Voc and 11A, so one panel plugs straight in. There’s a Delta 3 Max + 400W bundle on Amazon. It’s one panel to set up, but it’s heavy and large.
Budget: two third-party 200W panels in series
Panels like the Renogy 200W portable usually work in series if each panel’s Voc is about 25V or lower. Always check: panel Voc × number of panels in series ≤ 60V. Leave some margin, because Voc rises in cold weather.
Wiring Configurations: What Works and What Doesn’t
| Setup | Voc / Isc | OK? | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2× EcoFlow 220W in series | ~43V / 12.4A | ✅ Best | ~440W nominal, within all limits |
| 1× EcoFlow 400W | 48V / 11A | ✅ Yes | Single panel, within limits |
| 2× EcoFlow 400W in series | ~96V | ❌ No | Over the 60V limit |
| 2× EcoFlow 400W in parallel | Isc ~22A | ❌ No | Over the 18A Isc limit |
| 2× EcoFlow 220W in parallel | Isc ~25A | ❌ No | Over 18A; wire them in series instead |
| 2× third-party 200W in series | Check the label | ⚠️ Usually | OK if each Voc is ≤ ~25V |
Series vs. parallel in plain English
- Series (positive of one panel to negative of the next) adds voltage and keeps current the same. That’s usually the right choice for the Delta 3 Max, because its 60V ceiling leaves room for two smaller panels but its current limit doesn’t.
- Parallel (positives together, negatives together, with a Y-branch connector) adds current and keeps voltage the same. With 12A+ panels, two in parallel quickly exceed the Isc limit.
One Reddit owner reports charging with “2 x 320w panels in parallel.” That’s their own setup. Before copying it, check that the combined Isc of your panels stays within the manual’s limit.
EcoFlow Delta 3 Max Solar Charging Time
EcoFlow’s claim: 0–80% in 3.43 hours at a full 500W.
Reality check: panels rarely deliver their full rating. Angle, heat, clouds and time of day all cut output. The Solar Lab reported that solar recharging took more than 4 hours even with ideal sun and an oversized array. A Reddit camper reported about 4.5 hours to go from 20–35% to 100%.
How to estimate your own solar charge time: watch the input watts on the Delta 3 Max display, then divide the energy you need by that number. For example, if the display shows 350W and the battery is empty, 2,048Wh ÷ 350W ≈ 5.9 hours, plus a little extra for charging losses. If it shows 200W, plan on more than 10 hours, which usually means two sunny days. Portable panels rarely hold their full rated output all day, so expect the morning and late afternoon to be much slower than midday.
This is math, not a test result. We’ll replace it with our own measured numbers after our full-day solar time-lapse.
Is 500W of Solar Enough?
It’s the Delta 3 Max’s biggest weak spot. The Solar Lab called the 500W input “very low for the size of the battery.” The older Delta 2 Max took 1,000W across two ports, and the Delta 3 Max Plus also takes 1,000W.
For many people, though, 500W is workable:
- Weekend camping: a 12V fridge averaging ~15W uses roughly 360Wh a day. A single 220W panel should be able to cover that on a clear day, which we’ll confirm on camera.
- Outage top-ups: a day of sun can put back several hundred watt-hours to over 1kWh, extending a fridge and router setup significantly.
- Off-grid daily use: if you want to run 1.5–2kWh of loads every day on solar alone, 500W is tight. Look at the Delta 3 Max Plus or Delta 2 Max instead.
Step-by-Step EcoFlow Delta 3 Max Solar Setup
- Read the panel labels. Note Voc and Isc for each panel.
- Do the math. For series: total Voc = Voc × panel count; keep it ≤60V. For parallel: total Isc = Isc × panel count; keep it within the manual’s limit.
- Get the right cable. MC4-to-XT60i. A series connection needs nothing extra; parallel needs an MC4 Y-branch.
- Set up the panels. Face them toward the sun, angle them, and avoid partial shading. Shading one panel in a series string drags down the whole string.
- Plug into the XT60i port on the back of the Delta 3 Max.
- Watch the input watts on the display or in the app. The app also tracks solar vs. grid energy.
- Re-aim panels every couple of hours if you can.
Solar Safety Tips
- Never exceed 60V Voc. Cold mornings raise panel voltage, so don’t run right at the limit.
- Keep the Delta 3 Max shaded, dry and ventilated while panels sit in the sun. It charges between 0°C and 45°C.
- Don’t mix very different panels in series.
- Inspect MC4 connectors for dirt and damage before plugging in.

EcoFlow Delta 3 Max Solar FAQ
What is the EcoFlow Delta 3 Max solar input?
One XT60i port, 11–60V, 13A, 500W maximum. The manual also limits total Voc to 60V and Isc to 18A.
Can I use two EcoFlow 400W panels?
Not together on one Delta 3 Max. Two in series would be about 96V (over 60V), and two in parallel would be about 22A Isc (over 18A). One 400W panel works.
Do I need a special solar cable?
Yes. You need an MC4-to-XT60i cable, which isn’t included with the Delta 3 Max. EcoFlow panels usually include one.
Can I use non-EcoFlow solar panels?
Yes, if they have MC4 connectors and your array stays within the voltage and current limits. Check every panel’s Voc and Isc first.
How long does the Delta 3 Max take to charge on solar?
EcoFlow quotes 0–80% in 3.43 hours at a full 500W. Real-world reports run 4–4.5+ hours, and longer with smaller arrays or weaker sun.
Can I charge from solar and the wall at the same time?
EcoFlow doesn’t list combined AC + solar charging among the Delta 3 Max’s specs, so we won’t claim it. We’ll test it and update this answer.
