Delta 3 Max charging time ranges from about an hour to most of a day, depending on the source. The EcoFlow Delta 3 Max is one of the fastest wall-charging 2kWh stations around, but its car and solar inputs are much slower. Here’s how long each method takes, where the numbers come from, and how to get the fastest refill from what you have.

Testing note: Our 68-minute wall-charging test, XT60i car-charging test and solar time-lapse are on the filming schedule. Until then, times below are EcoFlow figures, independent test data, owner reports or our labeled estimates.
Delta 3 Max Charging Time by Source
| Source | Max input | Time (source) |
|---|---|---|
| Wall AC (X-Stream on) | 1,800W | 0–80% in 68 min (EcoFlow); 0–100% in about 68 min (The Solar Lab) |
| Solar, 500W of real input | 500W | 0–80% in 3.43h (EcoFlow); about 4–4.5h from low in real use (owners, The Solar Lab) |
| 12V car socket via XT60i | about 100W (12V × 8A) | roughly 20–24h for a full charge (our estimate) |
| 24V vehicle via XT60i | about 190W (24V × 8A) | roughly 11–13h (our estimate) |
| EcoFlow 500W Alternator Charger | 500W | roughly 4.5–5h while driving (our estimate) |
| Generator via AC input | up to 1,800W | about the same as wall charging if the generator can supply it |
Our estimates divide 2,048Wh by the input watts and add 10–20% for conversion losses and slowdown near full.
Wall Charging: About an Hour
With X-Stream fast charging on, the Delta 3 Max pulls up to 1,800W from a 120V, 15A outlet. EcoFlow quotes 0–80% in 68 minutes, and The Solar Lab measured a full 0–100% in about 68 minutes. Like most lithium chargers, it slows near the top. One owner reported the fan pulling air front to back at 1,700W but staying “very quiet.”
Tips:
- Use a dedicated outlet. At 1,800W, sharing a 15A circuit with a microwave or space heater can trip the breaker.
- Lower the charge speed in the app if the circuit is shared or you’re charging from a small generator.
- For overnight charging when speed doesn’t matter, a lower rate is gentler on the circuit and quieter.
Solar Charging: Half a Day of Good Sun
The single XT60i solar port accepts 11–60V at up to 13A, capped at 500W. In practice, panels rarely produce their full rating, so real recharge times stretch past EcoFlow’s 3.43-hour figure. A camper on Reddit took about 4.5 hours to go from 20–35% to 100%, and The Solar Lab needed more than 4 hours even with ideal sun and an oversized array. The panel combinations that fit the 60V and 18A limits are in our solar setup guide.
Car Charging: Slow, and Watch the Cable
Car charging uses the same XT60i port as solar, at 12V or 24V and 8A. In a typical 12V car that’s about 100W, so a full charge takes the better part of a day of driving. Two cautions:
- XT60 vs. XT60i: an Amazon reviewer reports that a plain XT60 cable (without the “i”) limits charging to 12V at 8A. Use EcoFlow’s XT60i car cable. The Delta 3 Max doesn’t include one.
- Engine running: charge only while driving, or you risk draining the starter battery.
Car charging is best for topping up between campsites, not for a full refill.
Alternator Charger: The Fast Road Option
EcoFlow’s 500W Alternator Charger connects to the Delta 3 Max’s XT60 input and charges at up to 500W while you drive, about five times faster than the 12V socket. EcoFlow’s 800W Alternator Charger also appears in the manual, but its reverse-charging and battery-maintenance modes don’t work with the Delta 3 Max, which only has the XT60 connection. An Amazon reviewer warns buyers about the same limit. If you’re kitting out a van, see our van life guide.
Generator Charging: As Fast as Your Generator Allows
Any generator can charge the Delta 3 Max through the AC input, and EcoFlow lists its Smart Generator 3000 and 4000 (Dual Fuel) as charging-compatible. A generator that can supply 1,800W continuously charges about as fast as the wall. A smaller inverter generator needs the charge speed turned down in the app so it doesn’t overload. Always run generators outdoors, well away from windows and doors.
Can You Combine Charging Sources?
The solar and car inputs share one port, so it’s one or the other. EcoFlow’s US page doesn’t describe combining AC and solar input at the same time on the Delta 3 Max, so we won’t claim it. Plan on one source at a time.
Fastest Way to Refill After an Outage
- When grid power returns, plug into a dedicated wall outlet with X-Stream on: roughly an hour to 80%.
- If the grid stays down, run a generator for an hour or so morning and evening at a charge rate it can handle.
- Use solar to stretch the battery between generator runs.
That routine is the core of our home backup plan. For the full spec picture, see our EcoFlow Delta 3 Max review, or check the EcoFlow Delta 3 Max price on Amazon.

Delta 3 Max Charging Time FAQ
How long does the Delta 3 Max take to charge?
About 68 minutes to 80% from the wall, about 4–4.5 hours on good solar, and most of a day from a 12V car socket.
What is the Delta 3 Max charging speed?
Up to 1,800W on AC, 500W on solar, about 100W from a 12V car socket and 500W with EcoFlow’s alternator charger.
Can I charge the Delta 3 Max in the cold?
Charging requires 0–45°C (32–113°F). Below freezing it can discharge (down to −10°C) but won’t charge.
Does the Delta 3 Max come with a car charger?
No. The box has an AC charging cable only.
