The Victron Digital Multi Control 200/200A is a simple wall panel for a MultiPlus, MultiPlus-II or Quattro. It does two things most people need every day: it switches the inverter/charger on, off or to charger-only, and its knob sets the AC input current limit to match the shore post or generator you’re plugged into. Here’s what Victron’s manual says it does, and when it’s the right pick over a GX touchscreen.

Compatible Inverter/Chargers
According to Victron’s manual, it works with MultiCompact, MultiPlus, MultiPlus-II and MultiPlus-II GX, Quattro and Quattro-II, and EasySolar and EasySolar-II GX. It also works with legacy pre-VE.Bus units from 2008 and earlier. It handles single units, parallel systems and 2- or 3-phase systems.
How the Knob Works
The knob sets the AC input current limit, which drives PowerControl and PowerAssist. The range follows your system. Victron’s example: on a unit with a 16A feed-through, the knob stays within 16A. With five of those units in parallel, the range scales up to 80A. You can also set a lower upper limit, or lock a fixed limit in the inverter/charger so the panel can’t override it.
On a Quattro, the panel adapts to multiple AC inputs and remembers the last limit used on each one.
Generator Mode
With a MultiPlus and an external transfer switch, short the panel’s rear screw terminals through the transfer switch’s auxiliary relay. When those terminals close, the panel sends a preset generator limit and shows “GEN”. Victron says a standard Quattro doesn’t need this, since it can set a fixed generator limit itself.
Who It’s For
- RVers and boaters who plug into 15A, 30A or 50A posts and need to change the limit often.
- Systems without a GX device, or ones where a physical knob beats a menu.
- Shared boats or rentals, where a simple switch is easier for guests.
Good to Know Before You Buy
- No remote monitoring. For VRM you still need a Cerbo GX or other GX device.
- Basic data only: input current, LEDs and error codes.
- Hardwired RJ45 run to the inverter/charger.

Worked Example: Moving Between Campgrounds
An RV with a MultiPlus-II 12/3000 and a Digital Multi Control by the door.
| Campground supply | Knob setting (example) | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 50A pedestal | 32A (the unit’s transfer switch rating) | Full charging and loads from shore |
| 30A pedestal | 25–30A | PowerControl reduces charging when loads rise |
| 15A household outlet | 12A | PowerAssist adds battery power during peaks |
| 2,000W inverter generator | About 14A | Generator stays within its rating |
Example settings, leaving a little margin below each source’s rating. Each time you arrive somewhere new, a quick turn of the knob keeps the breaker from tripping.
Worked Example: A Boat on Marina Power
A sailboat with a MultiPlus 12/3000 on a 16A marina supply. Setting the knob to 16A or slightly less lets the charger use whatever isn’t needed for the kettle or water heater, and the 7-segment display shows the actual input current, so you can see how close you are to the marina limit.
Switch Positions Explained
- On: the unit passes AC through and charges when shore power is present, and inverts from the battery when it isn’t.
- Charger only: charges from shore power but won’t invert when shore power is gone, which is useful for storage.
- Off: the unit is off; AC loads aren’t powered from shore or battery.
Reading the LEDs
The eight LEDs mirror the inverter/charger’s own indicators, showing mains on, bulk, absorption and float charging, inverter on, overload, low battery and temperature. They’re a quick way to see what the unit is doing without opening the electrical bay or a phone app.
Installation Steps
- Mount the panel where you’ll use it, such as near the RV entry door or at a boat’s nav station.
- Run an RJ45 UTP cable from the panel to a VE.Bus port on the inverter/charger.
- In a system with several units, connect to any free VE.Bus port.
- Power up and test: turn the knob and watch the display change.
- If you use generator mode, wire the rear screw terminals to the transfer switch’s auxiliary contact.
Digital Multi Control vs GX Touch
| Feature | Digital Multi Control | GX Touch with Cerbo GX |
|---|---|---|
| Physical knob and switch | Yes | No, touchscreen |
| On / Off / Charger only | Yes | Yes |
| Input current limit | Knob | On-screen |
| Full system overview | No | Yes |
| VRM remote monitoring | No | Yes |
Many owners like the panel’s instant physical controls; others use both, with the Cerbo for monitoring.
FAQ
Does the Victron Digital Multi Control work with the MultiPlus-II?
Yes. Victron lists MultiPlus-II and MultiPlus-II GX as compatible.
Can I use it with a Cerbo GX?
The Cerbo GX gives you monitoring and VRM. The panel adds a physical switch and knob. Check Victron’s manual for how the two share current-limit control in your setup.
Does it set the generator limit?
Yes. Wire the rear terminals to a transfer switch relay to send a preset limit.
Can I lock the current limit?
Yes. You can set a fixed limit in the inverter/charger configuration so the panel can’t override it.
How long can the RJ45 cable be?
Use a standard UTP network cable; check Victron’s manual for the maximum recommended length.
Do I still need it if I have VictronConnect?
Not necessarily, but the panel works without a phone, Bluetooth or a dongle. Anyone on board can see the input current and change the limit in a second, which is why many RV and boat owners keep one by the door.
