The EcoFlow Delta 3 Max, the Delta 3 Max Plus and the Delta 2 Max all have the same 2,048Wh battery, which is exactly why shoppers mix them up. The Amazon listing for the Delta 3 Max even shows a “newer model” banner pointing to the Plus, and the variant menu includes Delta 2 Max options. Beyond capacity, though, they’re different machines. This comparison covers output, solar, expansion, UPS speed, outlets and weight, so you can pick the right one.

Where the EcoFlow Delta 3 Max Wins
- Price. At $879 when we checked, it was $270 less than the Plus for the same 2,048Wh of storage. On price per watt-hour it’s one of the best deals in the class.
- Fast charging. EcoFlow quotes 0–80% in 68 minutes at up to 1,800W from a US outlet. The Solar Lab reported a full 0–100% wall charge in 68 minutes.
- Faster UPS than the Delta 2 Max. Under 10ms vs. about 30ms. That matters for desktop PCs, NAS boxes and network gear that can reboot on a slower switch.
- Lighter than the Delta 2 Max. 44.8 lb vs. 50 lb.
- Quiet. EcoFlow claims ≤25dB at 600W, and owners describe it as very quiet while charging.
- Newer app features. Storm Guard, TOU and Self-Powered modes, scheduled tasks, adjustable charging speed and more.
Where the Delta 3 Max Plus Wins
- Expansion to 10kWh. This is the big one. If you might ever want more than 2kWh, buy the Plus. See is the EcoFlow Delta 3 Max expandable?
- More output. 3,000W continuous and 6,000W surge give more headroom for motor loads like miter saws, compressors and well pumps.
- Double the solar. 1,000W over two ports means much faster solar refills.
- 30A DC output and a 4+8 port, useful for RVs and EcoFlow’s ecosystem accessories.
One caution: a Reddit post documents error codes on a Delta 3 Max Plus while charging and discharging at the same time. It’s a single report, not a trend, but worth knowing.
Where the Delta 2 Max Still Wins
- Six AC outlets vs. four. A Reddit owner put it simply: “the D3M has just four AC output plugs and the D2M has six.”
- 1,000W solar input over two ports.
- Expansion to 6kWh.
Its weak spots versus the Delta 3 Max are a slower switchover (~30ms), more weight, and the older feature set.
Head-to-Head: EcoFlow Delta 3 Max vs Max Plus
Runtime
Same 2,048Wh battery, so runtime is roughly the same for the same load. Our estimate for a full-size fridge averaging 67W is about 18–19 hours using 80–85% efficiency and ~25W of inverter idle. Owners report about 22 hours. The Plus’s advantage is that you can add batteries to multiply that.
Charging
Both refill fast from the wall. On solar, the Plus can take twice the wattage, so on a sunny day it gets back to full in roughly half the time, assuming you have the panels. With the Delta 3 Max, The Solar Lab found real solar recharges took over 4 hours even with ideal sun.
Output
For most household loads (fridge, microwave, coffee maker, induction burner), 2,400W is enough. The extra 600W on the Plus matters most for heavy motor starts and for running two big appliances together.
Who should pick which
- Pick the Delta 3 Max for apartment or house outage backup, camping and one-tool-at-a-time job sites, if 2kWh is enough and you want to save money.
- Pick the Max Plus if you want expansion, heavier output, a bigger solar array, or RV-friendly DC.
Head-to-Head: EcoFlow Delta 3 Max vs Delta 2 Max
This is the closest matchup on output: both are 2,048Wh, 2,400W and 4,800W surge with 3,400W X-Boost. The trade-off is:
| You want… | Better pick |
|---|---|
| Faster UPS switchover | Delta 3 Max (<10ms vs. ~30ms) |
| Lighter carry | Delta 3 Max (44.8 vs. 50 lb) |
| More outlets | Delta 2 Max (6 vs. 4) |
| More solar | Delta 2 Max (1,000W vs. 500W) |
| Expansion | Delta 2 Max (to 6kWh) |
| Newer app features | Delta 3 Max |
Best-Batteries’ review of the Delta 3 Max describes the move from the Delta 2 Max’s 1,000W dual MPPT solar to a single 500W input, and the loss of expansion, as a step back. For a solar-focused buyer, that’s fair. For a grid-charged backup buyer, the faster UPS and lighter weight matter more.
A Note on X-Boost Numbers
The Amazon titles advertise X-Boost figures (3,400W for the Delta 3 Max, 3,800W for the Plus). Per the Delta 3 Max manual, X-Boost is meant for resistive and heating loads and works by lowering voltage. It isn’t extra inverter capacity, isn’t meant for motors or sensitive electronics, and is unavailable during AC pass-through. Compare the continuous ratings (2,400W vs. 3,000W) when you plan loads.
Our Pick
For most people buying a single 2kWh station for outages and camping, the EcoFlow Delta 3 Max is the better value. It’s lighter, cheaper, has a faster UPS and charges quickly from the wall. Choose the Max Plus if expansion or heavy solar is in your plans; there’s no way to add capacity to the Delta 3 Max later. Choose the Delta 2 Max mainly if you find a good deal and want six outlets or 1,000W of solar.

[…] For finish carpenters, remodelers, electricians and anyone running one corded tool at a time, plus charging cordless packs, it looks like a strong fit. The fast recharge is a real advantage. For framing crews running compressors and multiple saws at once, 2,400W isn’t enough; look at higher-output stations or a generator. If you need more output in the EcoFlow lineup, the Delta 3 Max Plus offers 3,000W continuous and 6,000W surge. Compare them in Delta 3 Max vs Max Plus vs Delta 2 Max. […]

[…] It’s a great starter van power system, as Jon suggests: no wiring, no leisure-battery install, and it moves to the house for outages. For a full-time build with a 12V fridge, lights and water pump wired into the van, a fixed system with a DC-DC charger is more efficient. Keep the Delta 3 Max as the portable backup. […] Casey’s framing is the clearest explanation we’ve seen. Within the Delta 3 line, Max means more battery and Plus means more ports and expansion. Classic is the base model. The 2,048Wh EcoFlow Delta 3 Max has twice the capacity of the other two, but it gives up several things the 1kWh Plus has. The Delta 3 Max Plus combines both.
